What to expect�
Whether you�re an Aucklander who has yet to explore the North-West in full, or new to the area completely, you�re in for a treat. The North-West is home to rugged, coastal beaches, dense forest and some of the most beautiful land New Zealand has to offer. From black sand, West coast surf beaches like Piha and Muriwai, to the mighty Waitakere Ranges, you can spend a whole day exploring the wilderness while getting some fresh pics for the �gram.�

Check out the incredible bush walks, Kitekite Falls and Karekare falls, or climb Lion Rock for amazing views across Piha beach. As must-see tourist destinations, these are some of the most exciting things to do in New Zealand and a great opportunity to see how diverse the landscape is, from Abel Tasman and the golden-sand beaches up North to the snowy Southern Alps in the South Island.

Cafes/Restaurants�
Feeling peckish? From New Zealand�s oldest riverside tavern, The Riverhead Pub, to The Tasting Shed in Kumeu, there are a number of impressive eateries to refuel at between activities.

If you�re by the beach, why not check out The Piha Store, for a classic Kiwi pie or ice cream before you head down and hit the waves. This is just one of the enjoyable things to do near Piha, when you�re not taking in the sights or relaxing on the beach. 

The Kumeu Wine Trail�
It may be winter, but it�s always wine season. If the weather permits, why not grab a bike and explore the Kumeu Wine Trail. You�ll have the opportunity to visit 3 or 4 of the incredible vineyards in the region, like Soljans Estate or Kumeu River Wines, sampling a range of award-winning wines from Muscat to Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and all in between.�

If bikes are off the table, you can always hire a van. Wine tours are highly popular and are the perfect complement to a well-timed lunch at one of the local pubs or restaurants, or after letting off some steam on a morning climb at Tree Adventures.

Woodhill Mountain Bike Park�
Craving a bit more action? Head over to Woodhill forest for the mountain biking experience of a lifetime. You can hire bikes with friends then spend the day riding through the trees, across obstacles while soaking up the sights and sounds of the forest.�

If two wheels aren�t your thing, why not try a round of Disc Golf? A fun spin on the classic sport and a guaranteed blast with your friends or family.
